Kate doesn't know what she has until she loses him！When Greyson has had enough of Kate's shrewish nitpicking， he very publicly calls off their engagement。 The humiliation has Kate determined to launch herself into London Society， with her Aunt Honore's help， and find a way to regain her reputation while soothing her wounded ego。 But after the death of her mother， she's been the main mother figure for her three younger sisters and she's not sure she even wants to get married， set up her own house Kate doesn't know what she has until she loses him！When Greyson has had enough of Kate's shrewish nitpicking， he very publicly calls off their engagement。 The humiliation has Kate determined to launch herself into London Society， with her Aunt Honore's help， and find a way to regain her reputation while soothing her wounded ego。 But after the death of her mother， she's been the main mother figure for her three younger sisters and she's not sure she even wants to get married， set up her own household， and continue to be bound by the responsibilities of family。 As she's working through all this， Greyson is determined to get her back while also making her how things have to change so they can be truly happy together。 He's a fine gentleman， an honorable and faithful partner， even though his integrity puts him squarely in the middle of a series of unfortunate situations， mostly brought on by Kate's impulsiveness。 He certainly is given a plethora of opportunities to demonstrate his character and devotion！ These mishaps also work to show Kate what she really feels in her heart， and I really enjoyed the maturity she developed as she realized what she was risking。 But at the heart of the story is a delightfully madcap rom-com， filled with the kind of witty， chortle-out-loud humor that is rarely seen， and even rarer still to be done so intelligently。 Every page， every paragraph is a joy to read， a feast for the mind and a treat for anyone who loves the power of words to build entire worlds in our minds。 I especially enjoyed the hilarious back-and-forth between siblings of both generations， the inventive use of nicknames to convey opinions， and the heartfelt confrontations that finally gave Kate and Greyson the HEA they so richly deserve。 This was the first book I've read by this author， but I enjoyed it so much I immediately purchased the previous three in this series and put them at the top of my TBR。 I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book。 。。。more

A quick， easy read that’s lots of fun。 Definitely more of a Regency romp for the YA set， but the witty dialogue and chemistry between the leads makes this a treat for all。 I’ve yet to read a Kathleen Baldwin story I didn’t thoroughly enjoy。I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley。 All opinions are my own。

Kate has been acting as the mother figure for her younger sisters for a long time now， and while she loves them all that responsibility at a young age might be turning her into a bit of a shrew。 She has been engaged to her childhood sweetheart Greyson， Lord Colter， but has conflicting feelings about taking on further responsibility as a wife and possibly mother。 However， when her fiance breaks the engagement she is not exactly happy about that either。 Enter her aunt， Lady Alameda， who takes Kate Kate has been acting as the mother figure for her younger sisters for a long time now， and while she loves them all that responsibility at a young age might be turning her into a bit of a shrew。 She has been engaged to her childhood sweetheart Greyson， Lord Colter， but has conflicting feelings about taking on further responsibility as a wife and possibly mother。 However， when her fiance breaks the engagement she is not exactly happy about that either。 Enter her aunt， Lady Alameda， who takes Kate and her sisters to London to become the belles of the ball。 I liked the writing style and the characters。 The aunt is fun and outrageous， the sisters are a lovely bunch， and the hero is sweet。 The heroine could have been a bit more decisive。 I see from my reviews that I have read another book in this series before but I had no recollection of it besides the aunt's character seeming familiar。 The editing is mostly flawless but at one point there is a "Sophie" who says something， and I can only assume it was meant to be Sadie as there was no character named Sophie。 I got a free review copy from Netgalley and I'm leaving a honest， voluntary review。 。。。more

At the beginning of the story， I feared that Kate was going to be overwrought and hysterical， only alternating with one of those silly， （sorry） brainless， girls who has trouble "holding her tongue。" I have met far too many of those in books， and I dreaded an entire book-length visit with another。Fortunately for all of us， we find out why Kate appears to be this way。 They are mannerisms， developed by her circumstances and feelings， not character flaws！ （Thank you， stars in the heavens！） If you sk At the beginning of the story， I feared that Kate was going to be overwrought and hysterical， only alternating with one of those silly， （sorry） brainless， girls who has trouble "holding her tongue。" I have met far too many of those in books， and I dreaded an entire book-length visit with another。Fortunately for all of us， we find out why Kate appears to be this way。 They are mannerisms， developed by her circumstances and feelings， not character flaws！ （Thank you， stars in the heavens！） If you skim through the story （please do not skim） you will mistakenly think that Miss Kate lives on the edge between selfless love and devotion， and reckless， thoughtless irritation; leaning heavily in the latter direction （possibly to her own peril）。 However， if you look more closely， you will see the confusion and restlessness that fuels her rash decisions。 She has committed herself so completely to her duty， that without any adult guidance， she interpreted it to mean her life （her self） was the only paper-thin protection her family had from destruction。When her longstanding engagement is broken in a humiliating way--in front of her entire community--Kate determines to escape her fears by going to London with an aunt， Honore， who accepts the challenge， but is well known--to others--for making up her own rules。Danger of every kind awaits our Kate， and events she cannot imagine （despite her wild thoughts）。This was a much better read than I expected at first。 The re-stating of facts was frequent and a bit heavy-handed， but once the story picked up momentum， there was a better mix。 The author has previous books， but this is the first I have read。 She writes in the Regency era， and in my opinion， is one of the rising authors writing in this genre。 。。。more

This book really surprised me！I spent the first chapter thinking it would be a run-of-the-mill Regency romance， and one in which I wouldn't like the heroine very much。 She is full of self-pity and dramatic forebodings about what her future will be， now that her fiance has publicly jilted her because she nags him。But then things really kicked off when her aunt Honore arrives from London， ready to take Kate back with her and help her get over her broken heart。 Her aunt is a piece of work， one of t This book really surprised me！I spent the first chapter thinking it would be a run-of-the-mill Regency romance， and one in which I wouldn't like the heroine very much。 She is full of self-pity and dramatic forebodings about what her future will be， now that her fiance has publicly jilted her because she nags him。But then things really kicked off when her aunt Honore arrives from London， ready to take Kate back with her and help her get over her broken heart。 Her aunt is a piece of work， one of those characters who says the most shocking things and gets away with it， but who， you are almost sure， has a good heart。 Somewhere。And her three younger sisters all manage to get invited too。And her ex-fiance follows the whole gang， because he really does love her and wants her back。And then they all stop at an inn along the route。 And then there's an incident with a gun， and things start to veer a bit away from the tried-and-true Regency tropes I am so accustomed to。The scenarios sometimes feel absurd， especially if one is used to reading more earnest Regency romances。 Ultimately I just assumed that the absurdity was by design and rolled with it， because the humor was so good！ The dialogue had me snorting my laughter in various passages。Take this exchange between Kate and her 10-year-old sister。。。Tilly harrumphed the same exact way Aunt Honore does。 "You heard me。 He's acting like a lovesick donkey。""Monkey，" Kate corrected and tried to rub the sleep out of her eyes。"I said donkey because I was trying not to say jackass。 But if you prefer--""No。 No， donkey is fine。"Yes， this is a clean romance， but slightly more irreverent than what you might be used to from this genre。 ;） I really liked it。By the end of the book， I was also moved by deeper themes。 Children handling the responsibilities of an adult。 Doing it all on your own vs。 asking for help。 Learning to be ok with the fact that love means both good things and hard things will come your way。Like I said， really pleasantly surprised！This book is part of a series， but I had not read any of the others， and it easily stands on its own。Thanks to NetGalley and Ink Lion Books for this advance review copy！ 。。。more
